What is Internet.org ?
Internet.org is a facebook project that provide a free Internet Services. Internet.org is a Facebook-led initiative bringing together technology leaders, nonprofits and local communities to connect the two thirds (2/3) of the world that doesn’t have internet access. Internet.org does this by Partnering with Telecommunication company Reliance. Reliance Telecommunications and Facebook has made the free internet available to the billion plus population of India with the launch of the free basic internet services with Internet.org app. Internet.org summit, Facebook launched $1 million fund committed to making apps in India.
This services provides free basic services in markets where internet access may be less affordable. It allows people to browse selected health, employment, News, Social and local information websites without data charges. The app is currently available to Airtel customers in Ghana, Kenya and Zambia, Tigo customers in Colombia and Tanzania, and Reliance customers in India. It will continue to expand to other parts of the world.
Internet.org free internet service will be available to Reliance customers in six Indian states: Tamil Nadu, Gujarat, Kerala, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh and Telangana. These services will be available in English, Hindi, Tamil, Gujarati, Malayalam, Marathi and Telugu.
